Meet the Founder
Erick Burgos is the Founder of Trailhead Strategies Group, a veteran-led advisory firm based in Colorado that empowers veterans and outdoor-focused nonprofits to grow through strategic business guidance, leadership development, and mission-driven impact.
A 22-year Navy veteran, Erick brings the same discipline, resilience, and strategic mindset forged through military service to the world of business and community consulting. During his career, he led diverse teams across high-pressure environments around the world, learning the value of purpose-driven leadership and the power of teamwork in achieving meaningful goals.
After retiring from the Navy, Erick transitioned his leadership experience into the business world, where he now serves as a trusted advisor to both veteran entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations focused on outdoor recreation and wellness. His mission is to help others rediscover purpose after service — whether that means building a business, launching a new program, or connecting veterans with the healing power of the outdoors.
Erick holds an MBA from Brenau University and a Master’s degree in Outdoor Recreation Economy from the University of Colorado Boulder, where his concentration included Intro to the Outdoor Recreation Economy, Leading Sustainable Business in the Outdoor Recreation Economy, and Building Resilient Communities in Outdoor Recreation. This blend of business acumen and outdoor economy specialization uniquely positions him at the intersection of entrepreneurship, community development, and regenerative recreation strategy.
He also actively serves as a business advisor with the Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center, supporting veteran-owned and purpose-driven enterprises in launch, funding readiness, and sustainable growth.
Driven by his belief that the outdoors can strengthen individuals and communities alike, Erick founded Trailhead Strategies Group to bridge the gap between business strategy and outdoor impact. He works closely with organizations to develop sustainable funding models, design outcome-based programs, and measure real-world impact.
When he’s not advising clients, you’ll likely find Erick on a mountain trail, camping with fellow veterans, or planning the next Operation Summit Strong; a veteran expedition to summit 14ers in partnership with Warrior Revival.
Through every endeavor, Erick continues to serve, not in uniform, but in purpose, helping others lead, grow, and thrive beyond the call of duty.
